Silicone HTV – high-temperature silicone rubbers

Solid Silicone Rubber HTV

RubberPro offers two WACKER product lines made of HTV silicone rubber:

  • ELASTOSIL® R (peroxide-cured)
  • ELASTOSIL® R plus (platinum catalysed, addition-curing).

Our customers can choose between HTV rubbers, cross-linking agents, stabilizers, pigments and other additives, as well as ready-to-use silicone compounds.

High-temperature silicone rubbers of the ELASTOSIL® R series are peroxide cross-linked. They can be processed by traditional vulcanization processes such as EXT extrusion, CM molding and TM transfer molding, as well by the INJ injection method. HTV silicone compounds vulcanized under heat and are perfectly suited for the production of a wide range of products.

The products in the ELASTOSIL® R plus series combine the advantages of solid silicone rubber with those of addition-curing liquid silicone rubber, namely outstanding mechanical properties combined with high productivity. ELASTOSIL® R plus grades are available as 1-part and 2-part systems.

HTV Silicone – Applications

Heat-curing silicone rubber is used in a wide variety of applications in all industries:

  • Automotive and aerospace
  • Electrical engineering
  • Transmission and distribution cables (T&D)
  • Building
  • Mechanical and installation engineering
  • Consumer goods and food industry
  • Healthcare and medical technology

RUBBERPO POLSKA produces and designs individual, ready-to-use silicone rubber compounds for You. Our individualized approach results in a very good cooperation with a wide range of clients in Poland and Europe.

Silicone HTV – Processing methods:

  • EXT extrusion

Extrusion is a continuous production process in which the silicone compound is forced through a die and then vulcanized. The mouthpiece gives the extrudate its shape. The pressure necessary for the proper course of the vulcanization process is generated by the conveying screw, in which the material is homogenized, compressed and vented.

Extruded products include:

  • Tubing
  • Profiles
  • Cables
  • Flat belts
  • Round cords

  • Compression molding CM and TM Transfer Molding

Compression molding CM is still the most popular method of processing HTV silicones. The silicone compond is processed under the temperature and pressure. The undoubted advantage of this method is the relatively low cost of production implementation and the possibility of producing short series.

TM Transfer Molding is a manufacturing process in which vulcanized material is forced into a mold. Transfer molding differs from extrusion vulcanization in that the mold is closed. Compared to injection molding, transfer molding uses higher pressures to fill the mold cavity evenly. Moreover, unlike injection molding, the vulcanized material in the transfer mold can start the process as a solid. This can reduce hardware costs and time dependency.

  • Injection Molding INJ

Injection molding is the most efficient process for high-volume production of products that must meet stringent requirements for consistently high quality. It is characterized by high dimensional accuracy, the manufactured parts are of high quality, without the need for manual post-processing. The injection method also allows much shorter production cycles than other (CM / TM) processes. The disadvantages are the higher costs of molds and machines, although they are compensated by high efficiency. Injection molding is recommended for the production of small and medium-sized parts in large production series.

Our recommendation:

RubberPro Poland, based on the highest quality silicone rubbers, WACKER ELASTOSIL® R is able to develop and deliver the highest quality silicone compounds dedicated to EXT extrusion vulcanization, CM mold production and TM transfer molding, as well as the INJ injection method too.

Below we present an overview of the recommended silicone rubber compounds, taking into account their specializations:

  • Silicone Technical Compounds

based on the rubber of the ELASTOSIL® EL R 401 series. They are characterized by high flexibility, good transparency and very good strength parameters. They are easy to dye and modify hardness. While maintaining the appropriate production regime, these compounds meet the requirements of the FDA / BfR food standards. They come in hardness from 10 Sh to 90 Sh A.

  • Silicone Technical Compounds with higher tearing resistance

based on ELASTOSIL® EL R 420 series rubber. Compared to silicone compounds based on EL R 401 rubber, they are characterized by an increased tearing parameter and higher transparency. While maintaining the appropriate production regime, these compounds meet the requirements of the FDA / BfR food standards. They come in hardness from 30 Sh to 70 Sh A.

  • Silicone Technical Compounds with higher resistance to minteral oils and low compresion set

based on ELASTOSIL® EL R 701 series rubber. These compounds are especially used in the production of seals with increased resistance to oils (e.g. simmerings ), details with very lowcompresion set (e.g. rollers). They come in hardness from 40 Sh to 80 Sh A.

  • Silicone Technical Compounds with high resistance for hot air

the base is ELASTOSIL® EL R 750 rubber – these compounds are characterized by very high resistance to hot air – resistance at 300◦C / 7 days. They come in hardness from 40 Sh to 60 Sh A.

  • Silicone Technical Compounds with increased for water steam

the base is ELASTOSIL® EL R 755 rubber – these compounds are characterized by a very high cross-linked density and resistance to steam at 160 ° C for over 2 months. They come in hardness from 40 Sh to 60 Sh A.
